50g raw macadamia nuts
Half a vanilla pod scraped
3-4cm piece of ginger, peeled and quartered
160g pure fresh apple juice
2 Granny Smith apples cored and chopped
1 ripe avocado
- Blend the nuts, vanilla and ginger for 10 sec/speed 8.
- Add juice, apples and avocado 40 sec/speed 10.
- This smoothie is slightly thick and can be made into a refreshing pudding if you add a tablespoon of chia seeds. This tiny seed forms part of the mint family and packs a punch. “Chia” is an ancient word for “strength”. They are valued for their energy boosting properties. Add them and wait for a few minutes for them to swell giving a thick pudding-like consistency. They have similar benefits to flax seeds and are fast tracking as the best source of omega 3 fats. These seeds don’t have to be ground before consumption and have a longer shelf life than flax seeds.
- Avocados are an excellent brain booster and mood lifter. They provide healthy fats which raise serotonin levels and keep you happy. Add a dash of honey for a sweet tooth.
